Project Blog: Question Nine

If you could be somebody's assistant for a year, who would it be?

That's a tough one for me. But if I did have to pick, it would be Jen Lancaster. She's one of my favorite authors. So funny, sarcastic, smart-assed etc. I think I'd spend most of my time laughing (always a good thing when you're working, right?!). If you haven't read her books--Bitter is the New Black; Bright Lights, Big Ass; Such a Pretty Fat; Pretty in Plaid; and My Fair Lazy--I'd recommend you do! She also has her own blog at www.jennsylvania.com

Project Blog: Question 8

The latest Project Blog question is: What is your favorite beauty product?
EASY ANSWER....hands down it's Bare Escentuals: Bare Minerals makeup. I started using it what seems like forever ago and absolutely love it. Doesn't even feel like you have makeup on. Even got Mom to start using it too. So, the question really is...what's your favorite beauty product?

Weekend Wrap-Up

I've been trying to come up with something like Molly's "trivial tuesdays"...this seems like a good one.
* i worked this morning at a drive-thru starbucks. OH. MY. GOODNESS! so much busier than our store. bonus: i worked making drinks for all but about 10 minutes of the time.
* we've had record-breaking heat in november here in San Diego (think i'll rename it SUN Diego!)...and went swimming at our outdoor neighborhood pool yesterday.
* BEST NEWS: my sister Tiana is coming for Thanksgiving. Can't WAIT to see her. That means since moving we've had Ma & Pa, Kayali and Thomas, and Tiana & Jeff come to visit. It's so nice!

Project Blog:Question Seven

Tell us 5 things about your childhood...
1. I grew up with 6 siblings (plus me)..making 7 kids in our family. We're actually 2 families blended into 1. I am #6 and the youngest girl in the line-up.
2. I was lucky to grow up on a farm with 25 acres. My Dad raised cows, we had
a garden, and a swimming pool in the backyard.
3. As kids, we siblings fought (like normal siblings do), but now as adults I
can safely say we all get along and that we're friends.
4. We didn't have TV growing up...just an antenna on the house which brought
in Canadian TV (lots of hockey night in canada). Probably why I watch TV
so much now.
5. The best part of our summer vacations from school was a week of camping at
Birch Bay State Park. We'd take the camper and all of our bikes and spend
our days riding to the C Shop, the Beachwood Store, playing canasta and
cards with Granny and Grandpa, digging for clams and swimming in the bay,
having sugar cereal for breakfast (the ONLY time of year we got cereal like
Froot Loops), S'mores by the campfire, and if we were REALLY lucky...
sleeping in the Chinook with Granny and Grandpa. Oh, the memories we made there :)

Project Blog Question

My love of reading started early on in life and has never quit! Right now I am reading "Nanny Returns" by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus. It's the sequel to "The Nanny Diaries" which was also a movie with Scarlett Johansson. I visit the library near work almost every week. I like to read all sorts of books. I'm almost ashamed to say that: I DO judge a book by it's cover. If the cover art is good, I give the book a chance. I also really enjoy the books by Jen Lancaster...she's super funny! I am so excited that she's publishing a novel this year. My #1 favorite book of all time has to be Gone with the Wind. Such a classic! What are you reading this week?

Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my!

This summer Kayali and Thomas had a chance to visit us in San Diego. While they were here we took a trip to the San Diego Zoo. Can I just say that I love it? This zoo is quite large and takes the entire day to see exhibits...and even then you don't see them all. I've been twice since moving here and still feel like I haven't seen it all.

We did have to wait awhile in line to see the Pandas, but they were totally worth it! So playful and cute :)

The lions are so big and beautiful. The male lion had the largest mane I've ever seen!

The jaguar was so close to the glass, pacing back and forth. Seemed like he was playing games with all of us visitors.

The elephant has to be one of my favorite animals of all at the Zoo. Which one is yours?

Soccer and Birthdays

Here is what's been happening in our neck of the woods...

Ella had her 6th Birthday at Chuckee E. Cheese after soccer in the morning.

Audrie found a "Silly Bandz" at Ella's game.

Hailey likes to watch her big sisters play soccer...and is becoming quite the little player herself. She tried to steal away a ball during warm-ups from a girl on Ella's team :)

Chloe plays on a premier soccer team. Here they are at a 3-on-3 tourney. Their team split in to two 3 player teams and each ended up in the finals! Chloe's team was the Oompa-Loompas...and WON!!!

Chloe's 9th birthday party was at our clubhouse pool. Here she is having a piece of her Justin Bieber cake.

When it rains, it pours

Well friends, Fall has arrived in San Diego and I'm afraid to say it's alot like Washington. We had a HUGE thunder and lightning storm last night. I'm talking like so loud it WOKE me up at 1am this morning! It's been raining cats and dogs all day and San Diegans are kinda wimpy about it. I've never heard more people complain about rain as today. I just chuckle and say, I'm used to it :) Here's a picture to hopefully brighten your day!

Busy Busy Busy

That's what I've been! I am working 5 days a week at Starbucks (which i love) and with my days off I try to help Randi with the girls. Speaking of the girls, Chloe and Ella both are in school and soccer, Audrie is busy hanging out with Mom, and Hailey is cute as ever talking up a storm and keeping up with her big sisters. Randi is coaching Ella's soccer team--doing practice once a week and games on Saturday. I got a nice surprise this week...I found out my cousin, Ericka, is living here in Cali too and wants to meet up. Whoo hoo! Have a wonderful week everyone.

And so it goes...

Here's a quick update on my Starbucks life...
Yesterday was payday--it was great to finally get a paycheck again.
Bonus today--I found out I also got a few dollars in tips too :)
Weirdest drink I've had someone order--an iced venti chai with nonfat milk, 4 shots espresso floating on top, and 4 pumps hazelnut syrup. Yeah, NO! I like chai and coffee but not together. And definitely not hazelnut syrup.
Oh, and Pumpkin spice lattes are BAAAACK! Yum, my favorite fall drink for sure. Not to mention pumpkin scones and muffins.

New Beginnings...

As of last Monday (August 16th) I am Starbucks newest employee. I am so excited for this job. I hadn't been working since the big move to San Diego and was starting to get bored just sitting at home. August has been a busy month here in CA. First Kayali and Thomas were in town and we visited the San Diego Zoo with them (more later...I got some really cute pictures of the baby panda I will post. Then, Mom and Dad flew down for a whole week. Add in the new job, the girls starting soccer and school, and lots of other little things--that equals BUSY!

Interview part two

So I got some not so great news today...followed by some better news this afternoon. I woke up this morning and checked my email. Sadly, there was one there from the Gap saying I didn't get the job. Which is okay since this afternoon I lined up an interview with Starbucks. Bonus is that it's about a mile and a half from my house and I love Starbucks coffee. The interview is going to happen next Monday, August 2nd. Seriously, August already?! So friends please keep your fingers crossed that THIS interview is a successful one and I land the job.

Job Interview

This morning, I woke up, showered, had breakfast, and drove to Carlsbad. Why you ask? Well, I had a job interview at the Gap. I think it went pretty well and hopefully I'll land this job! After not working for 2 months (the LONGEST I've ever gone) I am really hoping it works out. Cross your fingers everyone...and I'll keep you posted.

LOST!

Attention all: California seems to have lost the sun! It's cloudy, chilly, and it rained. I have also worn long pants aka jeans the past two days! (first time since moving here). Oh, please Mr Sunshine won't you come back? I miss you already.

Check it out

I've been wanting to figure out how people have the cute backgrounds on their blogs...so this morning I did. I googled "the cutest blog on the block", found my background, followed their directions...and BAM cuteness on my blog. I think its totally appropriate too (love the little birdie). I've been busy unpacking my car, going for a walk, and doing laundry this morning. Now, just waiting to go to the pool.

Settling In...

After almost two weeks in hotel rooms...we have a house! Now the hard part is finding things in boxes and putting it all away. Once we're all settled I'll try to post some pictures...but for now this will have to do!

So here it is..a brand spanking-new blog. After much encouragement from my sister (thanks kayali), I finally did it. Hope you enjoy my blog!
